22.07.11 will for always be one of the darkest dates in Norway's history. It's two days since the terrible bombing and shooting took place, and I still have difficulties understanding that it actually happened. The man responsible for this is a native Norwegian who describes himself as "conservative" and "Christian". What an insult towards Christianity! I'm not a religious person, but now I understand how infuriating it must be for Muslims who gets this much more often. "I killed those people in the name of Allah!" Fuck off, you didn't. No matter what religion you follow, no God would ask you to kill innocent people. He/She would ask to forgive and help that person see the bigger picture.

The murderer will be explaining himself in front of a judge tomorrow, and he has asked for an open hearing. Only so he can spread his propaganda. And I am sure the cameras will be all over that. He shouldn't be allowed to do that. It's exactly what he wants. He wants to spread his message.
No matter what he says, he can't justify murdering 93 people - 86 of them kids and youths. He can't justify that he injured 97 more. He can't justify anything - and that's exactly what he'll try to do tomorrow. He has pleaded guilty in the bombing and the shooting, but he refuses that it was a crime. He's thinking he did the world a favour. If he's broadcasted tomorrow it's like spitting on all the fallen ones, their friends and their family. That's spitting on Norway as a whole. We're such a small country. When 93 is killed every single person in this country will know one or more. We will know their families. We will in some way be connected to the people who were killed. And every community will suffer losses.

If the cameras are allowed inside the courtroom, and if they choose to go in, I hope that people will follow my example: turn off the telly. Turn off the radio. Don't read the news about it. Have some respect for the many victims, their families, their friends. Have some respect for Norway. Have some respect for me. Let the murderer's words be unheard. I think that's the only punishment he'll really suffer from.

There's so much to say about this tragedy, but I can't find the words. I'll quote a girl who lived through the drama on Utøya and who was interviewed by the CNN when she was rescued:

"If one man can show so much hatred, just imagine how much love the rest of us can show?"

So far it's reporter 91 deaths. 7 of them died in the bombing, 84 were youths shot and drowned at Utøya.
84 young people. 84 kids for fuck sake! And there's still people missing. This is horrible.

Today something happened that I never, in a million years thought would happened in Norway. Terrorism. A gigantic car bomb went of in the middle of our political centre in Oslo, our nations capital. This is just about in the middle of the city as well. The bomb was so powerful windows was blasted out in a radius of one kilometre from the bombing centre. This has happened in the summer holiday when many people go on holiday to Oslo. A friend of mine saw a dead person hanging out of a window. They were close to where the bombing happened.
This is awful.
Every year the youth parties of the bigger political parties in Norway has a summer camp. One was going on today. A person disguised as a police officer managed to get onto the island where 700 kids, youths and young adults were enjoying their time together and starting using them as targets. Apparently with a machine gun. We still don't know how many got killed. Who does that? What kind of person does that?
Safe to say I'm scared- I still don't know if anybody I know is affected. This is so fucking surreal! This is Norway! What. The. Fuck?

Still- I hope we don't fall into a state of paranoia. I hope we grow closer. This is the time to stand together and help each other, not turn on each other and giving blame.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the happenings today.

Right now I'm stressing my ass of with finding somewhere to live in Oslo. I got accepted into the University there, so I'll be a student this fall! Actually, 15th of August. Which would be in under a month. Which means I'm STRESSED. How on earth am I going to find somewhere to live?

I helped out in my ma's kindergarden the other day. Everything was going smoothly, just like usual. When lunchtime came we decided to eat outside. The weather was nice for a change. Yeah.
So, anyway, we were sitting there eating fruit when all of the sudden this adorable little girl starts singing Justin Bieber's "Baby".
I didn't believe my ears! Especially not when most of the other kids joined in.
Christ! They're Norwegian kids between 3 and 6 years old! How on earth do they know that song?

Today is 17th of May, Norway's Constitution Day/National Day. What's so amazing about this day is that no matter what, you can't help but feel so incredibly patriotic and proud.

I present you with a tiny bit of background:
We signed our Constitution on 17th of May in 1814 at Eidsvoll, and it declared us as an independent nation. We were still under Swedish rule at the time, but we were an independent nation nonetheless. For quite some time the Swedish king disapproved on us celebrating this day as he thought it was a protest against him. Truth to be told, we never really cared much about the Swedish king. He was just this person in another country acting like our king. Joke. It wasn't until 1905 Sweden recognized us as an independent monarchy and the Swedish king gave up his throne over Norway, thus breaking the United Kingdoms of Norway and Sweden.

17th of May nowadays is celebrated with big children's parades all over the country. It's an extremely un-military parade. Yay!
Each elementary school district form their own parades with the school's marching band(s), and they walk through the community, waving flags, shouting "Hurra!" and singing our national anthem. The kindergardens in the district are also invited to join. As the kids walk by, bystanders will often join the parade back to the school. So in the end you get a pretty long line of people. It's all very cosy!
The biggest parade is in our nations capital, Oslo. Naturally. Every school will march past the Royal Castle, where the King, Queen, Crown Prince and Crown Princess (and their children) will stand on a balcony and wave. Today they were standing on that balcony at least three hours. Well, it was a pretty awesome parade.

In most communities there's one parade in the afternoon as well. In this one there's also marching bands, but also all sorts of different groups in the community. Like boy scouts and girl guides, local choirs, you name it.

An important addition to the children's parade is the Russ, the graduation classes of high school. I won't get into what that is, mostly because I can't be bothered. All I'll say is that they'll run through the children's parade, blowing their whistles and handing out cards and just make a bit of life.

When I was a kid I loved 17th of May. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Why? Well ... a lot of good food. No school. And the national promise every parent makes with their children: "You can have all the ice cream you want!" Yaaay :D

Early April, in between my times in Vadsø, I went to Trondheim to visit my best friend, Mia. I didn't take that many pictures from our Moustache/glasses party. Here's the ones I've got:

We also went to Downtown, a piano bar where the love of Mia's life, Vanessa, plays now and again. She flies London-Trondheim about once a month it seems. It was awesome! I have pictures of that. On my camera. And I have a USB to my camera. Somewhere. Over the rainbow.

Paris

Ah, Paris... there's a lot of things to say about France, and the French in particular, but man, they definitely know how to make beautiful cities. I went to Paris March 1-6, and I stayed at the St.Christopher's Hostel there. Let me tell you, it's much better than the one on Borough High Street and the one in Camden. This one has a much more modern feel to it, and it seemed much cleaner.
The only reason I went to Paris was because I'd never been there before, and I didn't want to travel far. Since I was in London, Paris seemed like a good deal - it's just a 2 hour train ride away after all! Beforehand I'd decided I wanted to do the tourist scene. You know, the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, the whole shebang. And, I did.
I also did what I normally do when I travel - do my best to get lost by wandering all over the place. I'm happy to inform you that Paris is an impossible city to get lost in! I mean, I did my very best, but I always had some sort of clue where I was, and the second I started to even doubt it a little bit I came across a map on the road that informed me that I was right on track.
The Metro there is real easy to understand as well if you don't want to walk yourself crazy. The best thing about the Metro, that I'm guessing most french people find annoying, is when musicians enter it and start playing music. Anyway, Paris is just a perfect city to walk around in. So much to see, and the feel of the city is great. (Yes - just like in the movies.) Another thing that's just like in the movies is the romance. Paris is without a doubt a place for couples, but I didn't at all feel left out by traveling there all by myself. I had a jolly good time, and I absolutely recommend the city. Especially if you like walking, beautiful buildings and history :)
By the way, yes - sitting outside a café, drinking wine or espresso, is a must. Oh. My. God. It's great!

So yeah, here you have it. A couple of pictures from my time in Paris. Safe to say I'm going back - preferably with a friend this time to get a real feel of the night life!:)

London

Once upon a time in February, I went to London (again!) Here comes the proof.

As you can see I went to the National History Museum.

I also went to the Science Museum, but that wasn't as fancy.

The National History Museum though! They had robot dino's!

This time around, I did a lot of touristy stuff in London, like the museums and well, just walking around getting familiar with the Piccadilly/Leister Square/Covent Garden area. I already know London Bridge inside out, so don't really have to spent that much time there. Anyway, enough about that!

I also went to the Royal Opera House to see the Alice in Wonderland ballet. Which was amazing!

Benny got free tickets to the pre-premiere, which is extremely awesome! She used to work at Belushi's Covent Garden, and the people who makes the different sets to the ballet and whatever usually stop by Belushi's for an after work drink. The ballet was amazing! It's not exactly my thing, but it was definitely a great experience.

Oh, and here's me and Benny on one of our Cheese&Wine Monday's at the White Hart in Holborn. What can I say ... we are CLEARLY classy people.

This is the last time I see a Harry Potter trailer for the first time. I didn't think it'd be very hard at all, as I've always preferred the books to the movies. But... this is really like destroying the last Horcrux of my childhood. I thought finishing the last book did that, but obviously not. It's kind of sad, but at the same time I can't possibly explain how excited I am to watch the last movie! I'll let the trailer speak for itself.

when two weeks feels like two months?

There's been hell of a lot going on.
Monday 4th I went to Trondheim, as planned. On my second day there my best friend got the call that her mother was dying. Her mother's been sick for a long time, so it was coming. Which meant we had to rush home. She went to Vadsø the 6th where her mother and father lives, and I went to Lakselv. On the 7th I got the call that her mother had passed, so I obviously rushed back to Vadsø the very next day.
Once in Vadsø I got the call that a very close friend of mine's father had passed on the 4th. That was a huge shock.
To just top the whole week, my stepbrother was in a car crash the 9th. He's alright, thank goodness. He broke his leg and shattered his knee, but that's repairable. Imagine if he, not even 20 years old, became paralysed? Or worse, a vegetable? Aaah.
It was a very emotional week. I felt the pain of both the losses, especially of my best friend's mother. She was a wonderful person, and I know how much my best friend loves her, and how much she always will.
The next week my cousin gave birth to a beautiful little baby girl the 12th. Half an hour after the birth the girl's great grandfather died in the same hospital.

Crazy couple of weeks, or what? I feel like I'm making it all up, and I really wish I was. I wish I was sick and twisted like that.
So that's what I've been doing lately!

On the road again!

Yessir.
I am on the road again. Seems I can't keep my ass in one place for much more than a week. This time though, I'm only traveling Norway.

That was a lie, I did go to Finland today. To buy cheap spirits. Alcoholic much? -shrug-
Nah, it's dead cheap and I try to save up money for when I go to England again in May.

Anyway, I'm in Vadsø at the moment visiting my grandma and other family nearby. My cousin is so pregnant it's hilarious. No, really, she got stuck in a chair today. I have a feeling her little girl will be coming any day now. Very exciting!
I'm not sticking around Vadsø much longer though, I'm about to fly off to Trondheim. To visit my best friend. Hence the need to buy cheep spirits. Dark Rum and Jägermeister. I'm very excited to finally introduce Jäger bombs to her. I'm sure they will make great friends, just like Jäger bombs and I are very well acquainted. Love/hate relationship, but it's ok. We're always happy to see each other.

I have a weird relationship to alcohol. It started one year ago when I got into bartending.

I guess this is where I tell you what a Jäger bomb is?

You will need: Jägermeister and Red Bull.
Step one: Grab a highball glass.
Step two: Fill half the glass with Red Bull or any other energy drink that taste somewhat similar.
Step three: Take a 25ml shot glass and fill it with Jäger.
Step four: Drop the shot glass in your highball glass with energy and down it.

Simple. Effective. Dangerous.

I'm very psyched about seeing my best friend again. I'm gonna research some drink recipes for Dark Rum, as all I know requires White Rum. (Except rum&coke where anything goes.)

Well, this was just a little update. I'm still going to post pictures from Paris, although this will have to wait now for obvious reasons. (If you want to see pictures of Paris thought I'd recommend google some. They're likely to be better than the ones I've taken anyway :p)

I'm back in Norway! Once again I'm going to work part time in my mother's kindergarden, and all that jazz. Until I go back to London, May 12th, for the Roger Waters concert. Exciting? I think so!

What's new?
I'm officially 23, as of March 13th. And nothing horrible happened! What I mean is, bad stuff normally happens around my birthday. Like last year when my grannie had a massive stroke. Or a couple of years before that when my grandfather died. Yeah. This year I spent most of my birthday traveling from Oslo to Lakselv. But that's alright. Nobody died. Nobody got sick. I'm happy :)

So yeah, I've been to London and Paris, both was awesome, and I'm going to post some pictures another day. I just can't be bothered right now.

Also, I've fallen even deeper in love with Etsy! I mean, my god. It's so many awesome things there! Yesterday I bought this fancy thing:

I went to Oslo with Stephanie

and I was a tourist in the capital of my own country for maybe the first time. Oslo is ... well, kind of a nice place. It's pretty boring for a capital, but it's really nice in the summer. For people who's never seen snow before, like Stephanie, it was amazing anyway. "SO MUCH SNOW! I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS MUCH SNOW!!"
It must be mentioned that she's from Australia.

We spent a couple of days in the capital before she went back to London, and I went to Trondheim. Where I quite promptly got sick upon meeting Mia (according to tradition) and spent my time there dying until I went home. This always happens when I meet Mia. It's becoming pretty ridiculous.. I had a good time in Trondheim though, but didn't go much outside for obvious reasons. So, no pictures! Which sucks as this was the first time I went to Trondheim, and it's a pretty nice city!

London was lovely. I'm thrilled I'm going back in under a month!

This time though, I'm so not sleeping at Stansted Airport. Twice is enough, thank you very much.

Anyway, I managed to get sick, so that kind of fucked up my nights. Which kind of ruined my days, I guess...

It worked out pretty well, though. Yeah.

Oslo though... Oslo ruled! I mean it, I had the time of my life. Hopefully living in London will be just as good, or better.

When I was (around) 9 years old I fell in love with a song. It just... filled me with happiness, and I couldn't stop listening to it. I got my exam results yesterday.
I failed one - this was expected.
I got a B on the other one.

You will not believe the way my family reacts when they hear an Irish folk song. It's crazy. Times two if they've been drinking. I'm telling you, my mother's side of the family would totally rule any Irish pub they'd go into. If you don't know how to use you voice, you can forget talking around them. Especially when they're all together. When you add alcohol it's worse. When you add Irish folk songs, well, at least you don't have to talk with them.

I'm telling you this for a reason. Last week my boyfriend, our neighbours (slash best friends) and me drank and had a blast together. Laughing, and dancing the most idiotic dances you could only imagine - just as it should be. Then. THEN! My best friend's boyfriend put on "The Wild Rover" and all hell breaks loose. We live in an apartment building filled with most nationalities in the world, this is two O'clock in the morning and no one complains. We scream the song, we're as loud as loud can be, we are standing outside. Not ONE complaint. This is amazing! People really must love Irish folk song. Or maybe they didn't dare say anything... This is just yet a conformation that I'm my mother's daughter and my father's son (haha).

Another thing about my family. Or, more my mother and her sisters. Well... Let me put it like this: We were on vacation, my mum and I, my mum's two older sisters and their husbands and a couple of my cousins. My mum and her eldest sister decides to go out drinking as the rest of us go to watch football. Rosenborg and Vålerenga played, and Rosenborg won. Of course. When we get to the pub my mum and aunt are supposed to be at, it's filled with people celebrating Rosenborg. My uncle goes in to find them, and comes out 15 minutes later without them.
I know how to find my mother and my aunt(s). So does my cousin. We use our ears. And there you are, in a pub with music and people on max volume, we locate them by following their laughs.
Enough said.

I love my family. And hey, I've inherited the laugh. So I rock as much as them!
